Do you love taking adventurous road trips? I know I cannot wait until my next adventure! But how do you even consider taking a minimal road trip with the ridiculous current skyrocketing gas prices?
Here are a few measures you can take now to help you get better gas mileage, and in the process, save more money at the pump, so you do not miss any adventures.
VEHICLE MAINTENANCE
Let’s talk vehicle maintenance for a minute. No matter what vehicle you are driving – RV, Travel Van, Jeep, Sedan, or SUV – you surely do not want to plunk all your hard-earned dollars into gas. You would most likely want to be able to spend your money on travel and excitement! It is very important to follow up with your routine vehicle maintenance and regularly perform fluid changes, spark plug changes, routine alignment, and tire rotation, as well as check your tire pressure, to ensure optimum gas efficiency.
DRIVING HABITS
Your driving habits are also an important factor in the amount of gas your vehicle will consume. For example, if you are a speed racer that has a lead foot and jackrabbit starts, you are going to burn much more gas than the guy next to you cruising down the road at 65 miles an hour on cruise control. When planning your road trip, always try to choose the route with the least traffic possible. This will keep your vehicle from sucking more gas due to multiple stop-and-go actions.
GAS SAVINGS
There are also multiple gas-saving clubs and fuel-saving apps you can sign up for. A few of the favorites that I use are Costco, Sam’s Club, and Gas Buddy. Currently, (the time of this post) the average gas price at the pump in Las Vegas, NV for regular gas is $5.29 and $4.65 at Costco and Sam’s Club. Although, Costco and Sam’s Club require a small annual membership fee, depending on how much you drive, you will gain the membership costs in fuel savings alone, so it’s well worth its time and money. (You also get to try free store samples when you go, and who doesn’t like free food!)
Gas Buddy is a free app that allows you to look for the cheapest gas prices near you. You can also plan your road trip based on the gas prices through the app. It’s super simple to create an account while monitoring your savings at the same time.
