Surfing is well known worldwide- even if you aren’t a surfer, it’s an outdoor destination you will enjoy. It is fascinating to watch people swim out in the deep blue seas and fight to grab waves as if it’s the last cheeseburger at McDonald’s.
But did you know that not only people surf? You’re probably wondering what I am referring to, at least this was my thought when I saw firsthand our furry four-legged, surf dog friends dragging their surfboards out to the ocean side, riding a wave onto the shore, just to wrestle with their owners to return to the waters. A magnificent way to travel the ocean waters!
These ocean-loving furry friends are traveling the waves like no other and capturing their wild sides. (And here I am trying to bribe my dog just to get her belly in the pool. LOL)
The World Dog Surfing Championship is an annual competition held in Southern California, this year it will be held at, Linda Mar Beach Pacifica, CA, on Saturday, August 6th. The event is open to the public and free to all those looking for a last-minute getaway. Maybe you have a dog that surfs or would like to register your pup, come experience the excitement and click the following link for more details.
The competition included each surf dog participating in a 10-min heat that was based on their weight class. They were all judged on their ability to ride the waves, stay on the board, and of course, their cuteness factor! Win or lose, they all did great. So, if you are in the area or just want to come to see these awesome dogs ride the waves, make it a family event and enjoy the outdoors. Nearly every weekend you can see dogs ride the waves, even if there are no competitions.
