Elvis Presley
Alabama crooned, “You can’t keep a good man down.” Well, that certainly was the case with the “King,” singer/songwriter Elvis Presley, especially in his hometown haunt of Las Vegas, Nevada.
No sooner than we think Elvis has finally “passed, “when something else crops up to resuscitate his supposed peacefully languishing and decomposing spirit.
As we wrote earlier, (link to our prior blog article), the latest wrinkle in the saga is that the marketing and legal arm of the King’s brand management,
Authentic Brands Group (ABG), is charged with getting every last red cent they can muster for the estate of the long since dead music icon, who passed to somewhere – they say – on August 16, 1977, has since decided that discretion is indeed the better part of valor in terms of their public image.
Yep, the ol’ Elvis’s brand protectors were getting all their ducks in a row, after sending a cease-and-desist letter out, to soon slap a major heartburn-inducing lawsuit in May on Las Vegas’ struggling, pandemic-recovering wedding chapels, hospitality venues, including a large cadre of Elvis impersonators.
An industry once drew some $2.5 billion of Las Vegas economic stimulus annually by hosting thousands upon thousands of weddings in the “Wedding Capital of the World” – because they did not get prior permission to use, or pay for the rights, of the Elvis brand for decades.
Well, it turns out, instead of majorly trying to slap their wallets in one large swoop, ABG executives have decided to do more palliative, incremental actions to “form a partnership,” ostensibly to “protect the legacy of Elvis Presley for generations to come.”
Although what being a “partner” in legal terms entails is currently under conjecture and review, most industry experts feel their ultimate proposition will enable organizations in Las Vegas to use the intellectual rights of the Elvis brand- without going broke.
But, even so, now is an excellent time to consider getting hitched Elvis-style.
Our thoughts are that memorable Elvis will never ever really leave the “room.”
All hail, the King is back!
