Have you ever felt as you get older your friends and family grow apart and move farther away? The days get longer, and the weeks turn into years. Yep, that’s me too! So, how do you deal with this life issue? You plan a “girls’ trip” to New Orleans or any trip that you can get together, be silly, and forget all of life’s everyday challenges.

My daughter and I hopped on a plane and met my sister, from Arkansas, in New Orleans, where the party started.

If you are unfamiliar with this humungous city, there are so many things to do. Since we only had three days to have fun, we gathered on the couch in our Airbnb, with a tub of ice cream and some cookies we bought on our way from the airport and planned our itinerary.

City of the Dead

Since we all love the history of New Orleans – aka the “City of the Dead” – we decided to start off with a walking tour of St. Lois Cemetery number 1.

My daughter is absolutely in love with dogs, all animals, but dogs are her favorite. So, we decided to hop in an Uber and head on over to visit Villalobos Rescue Center (VRC). This is the rescue center that is premiered in the show, “Pit Bulls and Parolees.”

You must check out this place, they have volunteer opportunities, including dog walking. We were able to book a dog walking slot and take the dogs on a nice long walk around the building. I don’t know who enjoyed the walk more, the dogs or us! pit bulls and parolees, new orleans, villalobos rescue center, dog walking, vacation

Tia Maria Torres, owner, and founder of VRC, works with a team of kind-hearted individuals to give another chance in life to pit bulls and other breeds as well.

My daughter isn’t 21 yet, so we were limited on what bars to visit. Walking downtown is a must. You can hear live music from the streets.

And of course, the shopping, there are so many local shops and vendors to choose from. I decided to buy a hat!! Why not right, mom needs a souvenir as well.

And finally, what’s the best way to stay connected even after the trip is over and everyone flies back to whatever part of the world, they live in? TATTOOS, yep that’s right, after days of contemplation and no’s, we finally chose a great tattoo. The artist was fabulous, and we were happy.
