Is Nevada, and Las Vegas specifically, ready for the next toking step: recreational marijuana lounges?
This is where millions of tourists travel each year, and where the largest marijuana-using populations are reportedly located.
Although last year the Nevada Legislature approved cannabis consumption lounges, the actual timing of and laws governing marijuana lounges remain cloudy issues.
Clark County Commissioner Marilyn Kirkpatrickstated last Tuesday, April 19, 2022, during a public Clark County marijuana lounge hearing meeting, saying, “I’m not sold on the idea yet, because I really don’t think we’re ready.”

One of the main stated worries is that the Nevada Cannabis Compliance Board may not be able to process the licensing within the allotted, abbreviated timeframe. This will also have health inspectors prioritizing the cannabis lounge inspections over other facilities.
As it stands now, all proposed lounges will be mandated to attach to a marijuana retail store and meet other necessary requirements. It is unknown if all facilities will be able to meet all the proposed requirements.
Although the recent regulatory meeting brought upon more questions than answers, this is just the beginning, as Nevada and Las Vegas commence regulating the industry.
